There was a time when the only place in the United States that you could gamble legally was in Nevada. And there wasn’t a whole lot to do in Vegas aside from a few shows, great buffets, lots of comps, and GAMBLING. Surprisingly, even with gambling in so many of the other states, and even with the amazing variety of things to do besides poker, slots, craps, blackjack, and roulette, gambling in Las Vegas is still the favorite vacation choice around.
Incredibly, of the over thirty-five million people that flock to Las Vegas each year, over ninety per cent of them gamble while they are here. And half of them came here for that purpose alone. The average tourist gambles for at least three and a half hours every day.
Slot machines are the most popular form of gambling in Las Vegas…by far, grabbing over fifty-nine per cent of the visitors. And why not? They are the first thing you see in the airport when you get off the plane! Black jack is next, with video poker coming in third. But over the last few years, poker had made a huge comeback, as has craps. And new casino games are copping up every year!
Sports and race books are getting bigger and more lucrative every year. Some of the larger or new casinos have amazing sports books that offer comfortable seating, desks, free drinks and food, etc., while live races and sporting events are shown on huge screens all over the room.
You do not have to be a high roller to enjoy gambling in Las Vegas. You can have just as much fun playing penny or nickel slots as you can playing $1 or $5 slots. Granted, you won’t make your fortune that way, but guess what? Few people do even when they bet the ranch!
